How it Works

A Bradford Solar System + Tesla Powerwall gives you a whole new level of energy control in your home. PV panels absorb energy from the sun and produce electricity that is used to power your home during the day.

In the past, surplus solar power was sent into the grid and back to the power company. Now, the Tesla Powerwall is charged with solar energy so you can power your home into the night or have the option of storing it for a rainy day.

What is Powerwall?

Powerwall is a state of the art Tesla battery system for residential and light commercial applications that enables the storage of energy such as solar power. Commonly, Powerwall can be used to store solar energy during the day for use at night time. It can also provide backup power in case of a grid outage. Depending on where you live and the electricity rates in your area, Powerwall can potentially save you money by shifting energy consumption from high to low rate periods. Lastly, it can also help you achieve total energy independence and go completely off-grid.

What comes in a Bradford Solar System with Powerwall?

The Bradford Solar System with Powerwall includes solar panels, inverter, and the Powerwall battery, and is installed by an Approved Bradford Installer.

What does a CSR Bradford installed Tesla Powerwall cost me?

A Bradford Solar System with Powerwall can be installed for around $15,000 and a Tesla Powerwall and Inverter only package can be installed for around $10,000.

What model of Powerwall is being offered?

The Bradford Solar system includes a Daily Cycle Tesla Powerwall. It has 6.4kWh of energy capacity, can charge and discharge at up to 3.3kW continuous and peak power. It is designed for daily storage and consumption of solar power, load shifting, and provision of backup power.

What types of batteries are inside the Tesla Powerwall?

Tesla uses lithium ion batteries for Powerwall.

Why should I choose a Tesla Powerwall battery?

Powerwall is wall mounted, attractive and comes with a limited warranty for up to 10 years. CSR Bradford have chosen to supply Powerwall as part of our high quality solar systems as we know it is one of the safest, best performing, and cost effective products on the market. It is also extremely easy to maintain requiring no intervention once installed.

Do I need PV/Solar to operate Powerwall?
No. Powerwall can be charged using AC power from the grid or a generator. Bradford also offers a Powerwall Battery and inverter system without PV which can be used for load shifting or backup power.
Where can I install my Powerwall?
The Tesla Powerwall is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation. Generally a Powerwall would be installed within the family garage area.
What's the difference between single phase and three phase electricity?
Electricity is either connected at 230 or 240 volts (single-phase, which accounts for the majority of domestic situations), or 400 and 415 Volts (three-phase). The latter is better suited for powerful appliances. A single phase connection is common in small to medium sized houses that use an average amount of electricity. Three phase connections are more common in larger houses that utilise a lot of electricity, or in rural areas.
How does single phase and three phase apply to home solar systems?
You are able to purchase either a single phase or three phase inverter. Solar power systems installed on a three phase property can have either a three phase or a single phase inverter – a single phase inverter will deliver power to one phase (one circuit) only, while a three phase inverter will deliver power equally to all three phases (three circuits).
When is three phase more appropriate?

1. Big electric motors (usually more than 2 kilowatt) need three-phase power. This includes ducted air conditioning or large workshop equipment.

2. Large domestic installations sometimes have three-phase because it distributes the total load in a way that ensures that the current in each phase is lower.
